Mash Something

From 2-4 pm the day before GIS Day, so Tuesday, November 18th, in the Hicks Undergraduate Library iLab, GIS Librarian Chris Miller will offer a hands-on workshop for anyone interested in creating an online map mashup. Mashups are all the rage, of course (or have been since ~2005, anyway), and the tools available to make them have increased almost exponentially. The session will walk through the basics of the mashup, with a look at both Google Maps and OpenLayers, then proceed to step through the process of creating your own. The objectives of this session:

  • create a simple map mashup using tabular data from some external source
  • achieve a better understanding of how these modern applications take advantage of data fluidity
  • understand the connection between these lightweight web apps and the larger field of GIS
  • The session is open to anybody. No previous experience is necessary, although it will help if you've seen some html before.

    REGISTRATION HAS CLOSED
