Name: Unger, Sanford Martin

Historical Note: Sanford Unger received his BA from Anitoch College in 1953, his MA from Cornell University in 1955, and his PhD from Cornell University in 1960.  Unger served as a research scientist at the National Institutes of Health from 1960 to 1965 and Chief of Psychosocial Research at the Maryland State Psychiatric Research Center from 1965 to 1973.  He also was an adjunct faculty member at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine from 1966 to 1992. Unger has published several articles including “LSD and Psychotherapy: A Bibliography of the English-Language Literature,” “Mescaline, LSD, Psilocybin, and Personality Change,” “The Use of LSD: Reflections and Observations” and has co-authored articles such as “Psychedelic (LSD) Therapy of Neurotic Disorders: Short Term Effects” and “The Experimental Use of Psychedelic (LSD) Psychotherapy.”
