Name: Jischke, M. C. (Martin C.)
Historical Note: Martin Jischke was born and grew up in Chicago, Illinois in Maywood, a suburb of Chicago's west side. In 1963 he earned his BS in Physics with honors from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He received his master's and doctoral degrees in aeronautics and astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1968. Jischke was a member of the faculty of the University of Oklahoma's School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering for 17 years and also served as director of the school. From 1981 to 1986 Jischke was Dean of the College of Engineering. From 1991 to 2000 he was President of Iowa State University. On August 14, 2000 Dr. Jischke became the tenth president of Purdue University. Jischke was president from 2000 to 2007.
