Historical Note: Ernest V. Claypool was born at Sumtion Prarie, St. Joseph County, Indiana, August 11, 1866. He graduated from Delphi High School May 31, 1883, spent the following summer in the printing office of the Delphi Journal, taught school the winter of 1883-1884, and then entered Purdue University about April 20, 1884, as Irregular, to prepare for the Junior class, which he entered the following September. During his connection with the University he held the literary editorship of The Purdue, and presidency of the Carlyle Literary Society. He graduated from Purdue with a Bachelor of Science in 1886 and a Master of Science in 1890.
