Historical Note: Aldo C. Leopold was born in Albuquerque, N.M., while his father was employed with the U.S. Forest Service. They moved to Madison, Wis., where he went through the school and university system. After four years in the Marine Corps, Leopold went to Harvard for graduate work. He then became a staff member of Purdue University where he remained for 25 years. After leaving Purdue, he moved to the University of Nebraska, where he was an administrator, and later to Cornell for research.
