The collection consists of one folder which contains articles by Albert Smith.

Biographical Note

Professor Albert Smith was head of the Structural Engineering Department for several years. He graduated from Dartmouth College 1898 and then attended the Thayer School of Civil Engineering, graduating in 1903, at Hanover, New Hampshire. Later he was employed by the Illinois Steel Company. He came to Purdue in 1904 and stayed until 1921.  He began as an instructor and later was advanced to a full professorship.

He was a tall, frail man, and was the son-in-law of Dean Stanley Coulter.  He served in the Spanish-American War and was a Lt. Col. with the engineers oversees in World War I.  He was known for his studies he made near old Stuart Field.  He built a wind tunnel and a  model buidling there and used them to determine the effects of wind pressure on tall buildings.
