Biographical Note

Moore was a graduate of the Class of 1907 and as a senior had resorted to an expedient which must be unique in the annals of Purdue - he approved his own senior thesis, at the suggestion of Professor Esterline, who was too busy to check it. Moore, like Esterline, went into the commercial world after a brief academic career. He became supervisory research engineer with the Bell Laboratories and was credited with the invention of the "monophone," in which (as is still done today) the speaking and hearing mechanisms were incorporated in the same telephonic unit.
