Scope and Contents of the Materials
The Steven C. Beering Papers (1950-2001, 6.5 cubic feet) includes interview transcripts and scripts for Vision for Tomorrow, Beta and VHS tapes of interviews and other material relating to the life and career of Steven Beering, president of Purdue University. The papers include a variety of tapes and DVDs that document activities on the Purdue University campus, relating to events at Westwood, the Black Cultural Center (BCC), and other locations.
Biographical Note
Steven Claus Beering served as president of Purdue University from 1983 to 2000. Previously, he was dean of the Indiana University School of Medicine. During his leadership, Purdue's main campus in West Lafayette, Indiana grew by more than 20 buildings. He replaced John W. Hicks and was superseded by Martin C. Jischke. Beering earned a B.S. in 1954 and a M.D. in 1959, both from the University of Pittsburgh.
