William K. Hatt was Head of the Civil Engineering Department at Purdue University from 1906-1937. He was known as one of the prominent engineers of the Middle West. He was a consulting engineer for the great World War Memorial in Indianapolis, and was an authority and author in the field of testing materials. He was a director of the Advisory Board of Highway Research of the National Research Council, which brought about many radical changes and improvements in highway construction.
