Biographical Note

Born July 1, 1896, in Bloomington, IN; died in July 1986, in Lafayette, IN.

Education: Indiana University, A.B., 1917, A.M., 1925; University of London, student, 1930-31. Memberships: Parlor Club (Lafayette).

Taught at Purdue University, Lafayette, IN, 1919--, George Ade Professor of English. Lecturer in Japan and Formosa, 1962, 1964.

His writings included:
