Biographical Note
Oscar John Craig was born in Madison, Indiana in 1846. Enlisted in the Union Army in 1863 and was discharged in 1865. Matriculated at Asbury University (DePauw) in 1866 but did not graduate until 1881. Received his M.A. in 1883 and his Ph.D. in 1887. He was Superintendent of Schools of Sullivan, Indiana in 1880. In 1883 came to the prepatory department of Purdue Univeraity from which position he was advanced in 1886 to the chair of history and political science. In 1895 he left to become head of the University of Montana. He died at San Diego, California, March, 1928
