Historical Note:

Glenn James was born October 2, 1882; attended Vincennes University 1901-1903; received the A. B. degree from Indiana University in 1905 and the A. M. in 1910. He studied at Chicago University two summers and at Columbia one summer throughout the year 1915-1916. Glenn James was an instructor at the Michigan Agricultural College from 1905-1908 and at Purdue University following that time period. He then moved to Carnegie Institute of Technology as Associate Professor of Mathematics, where he remained until 1922. In that year he joined the faculty of the new Southern Branch of the University of California as Assistant Professor and became Associate Professor in 1925. He retired from active teaching in 1949.

Professor James died on September 2, 1961 at Arroyo Grande, California.
