Historical Note: G. Stanley (George) Meikle (1886-1960) was appointed the first director of the Department of Research Relations with Industry at Purdue University in 1927 by Edward C. Elliott. He surveyed Indiana industries to determine how the University could best assist them. Meikle's research helped David E. Ross form what is now the Purdue Research Foundation (PRF) on December 30, 1930. The PRF was established as a separate legal entity from the University to allow contracts with industry. Furthermore, the PRF provided graduate students for research projects being conducted by leaders in industry.
